For the school year 2024/25 and with a start date of August 15, 2024, we are looking for a committed Saturday School Teacher for Preschool Class (3y old).
The South Bay Deutscher Schulverein (SBDS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit school and teaches the German language and culture in San Jose / Campbell, CA on 30 Saturday mornings during the year. We have 250 students in 21 classes, a lively community with engaged and active parents and an average teacher / student ratio of 1:5.
SBDS is looking for a teacher for a new Preschool Class.
Students in this class are approximately 3 years old. Parents are encouraged and welcome to participate during class. The teacher will plan and lead young students with their parents through the school day. For each Saturday, the following activities are suggested as a minimum:
- 1 story
- 1 song
- 1 rhyme
- 1 game
- 1 small craft project with unstructured playtime interspersed
Class time is reserved for German language only. German speaking parents should help model use of the German language as much as possible especially while new vocabulary is introduced.
The Preschool teacher is part of our L0-L2 team and may work with an adult assistant/substitute and may leverage materials and the music teacher from other classes (Toddler, PreK 4y, Kindergarten).
Class time: 30 Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at SBDS in Campbell/San Jose, including a 30-minute recess. Regular pay is for 3 hours per Saturday, plus 1 hour prep time. Extra hours can be submitted and are common at the beginning of the year. Pay rate is between $30 and $34 per hour.
First day of school: September 7, 2024.
Requirements
- Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer
- Excellent German language skills (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Experience working with Preschool-aged children desired
- Create a positive learning environment for young children and adults
- Good to be familiar with German childrens’ songs, fingerplays, books
- Willing to work with parents in class, helping them engage with activities and their children
Essential functions
- Plan and implement weekly activities
- Develop creative ways to promote German language and culture
- Email and coordinate with parents when appropriate and needed
