WHY CHOOSE US
OUR SCHOOL
SBDS is the German language school of the San Francisco South Bay. Classes and summer camps are held at our campus in Campbell, California. Founded in 1963, the South Bay Deutscher Schulverein (SBDS) is a California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our teachers are native speakers and make learning German fun! We know that all our students have busy lives during the week, so we strive to make learning German low-stress in a safe, interactive, and fun environment.
COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT
Saturday mornings are a great time for families and community members to check out a new book or DVD from the library and to socialize with local German-speakers. We offer a “cake table” on Saturdays from 10:15-11am, where students, family and community members can purchase coffee, tea, and snacks. In this way, we share with our students the tradition in German-speaking countries of enjoying Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake). The money raised at the cake table funds the events offered throughout the year.

German for college applications
At the South Bay Deutscher Schulverein (SBDS) teens prepare for rigorous certifications and exams, such as the AP German test and Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD) exams. SBDS is the only German Saturday school in the San Francisco Bay Area certified to offer (administer) the DSD tests, which are required for international students who wish to attend universities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Nondiscriminatory Policy
SBDS welcomes students, members, and staff of any race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students, members, and staff at the school. The South Bay Deutscher Schulverein does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs, events, and other school-administered programs.
