Careers

The South Bay Deutscher Schulverein (SBDS) invites you to join our team. We are regularly in need of teachers, substitute teachers, assistants and even substitute assistants.

Classes take place on 30 Saturdays from September through May from 9am to 12pm at the SBDS campus in Campbell (leased from the San Jose Christian School). A few teen and adult classes are offered at other times. Co-teaching in a 2-teacher teaching team is possible and SBDS offers a teacher training program for those new to teaching with a passion for sharing the German language. Teachers get support from other teachers to share ideas. SBDS teachers also participate in the annual GASANC conference for German Saturday school teachers and staff, where they make connections with other teachers and learn new teaching techniques from top academics.

Our school currently teaches more than 200 students from pre-K through 12th Grade children and adults. Our teen students prepare for internationally recognized standardized tests, including AATG (American Association of Teachers of German) tests, AP (Advanced Placement) German tests, and DSD (Deutsches Sprachdiplom) exams.

Qualifications:

  • Native or native-like fluency in German
  • Teaching experience not necessarily required
  • Flexible personality and a love for teaching

Testimonials

Working at SBDS has brought me a lot of joy over the years. I have worked with children from pre-K to third grade and am currently in the kindergarten class. SBDS provides a wonderful German community, a safe learning environment, and a great way to form friendships and connections. The Kaffeetisch is also an excellent bonus!

Teaching at SBDS is very special to me and I always enjoy my time in the classroom with my fellow adult students. It is truly rewarding to see how everybody contributes to our school, not just the teachers, but also the students themselves who are so involved in our community. That reflects in our school and I feel that everybody is being reflected.
